Good morning,
every now and then there is a new trend or "miracle" innovation in the world of nutrition. Sometimes it's a diet, sometimes it's a superfood, sometimes it's a supplement that solves all problems.
But most of them are based on sweet marketing rather than real evidence.
It is therefore advantageous to have a compass in hand to guide us through this information chaos. A serious and functional compass in this case is science, thanks to which we can distinguish tempting promises from verified facts and find a way that really promotes health. The scientific approach to nutrition does not work with assumptions or fashionable claims, but with long-term observed results and data.
In this issue of the newsletter, we will focus on what an evidence-based approach in nutrition means, we will offer a practical tip on how to distinguish verified information from marketing claims, and in the section "Nutrition in questions and answers" we will open the topic of a gluten-free diet. At the end, we will present the current offer of courses, where we learn to translate scientific knowledge into everyday practice.

A scientific approach to eating
Unlike short-term trends, science provides a solid foundation that helps us in nutrition truly understand what works and why. The evidence-based approach does not rely on individual impressions or one study, but on systematically examined results that together create a reliable picture.
Thanks to this, we can distinguish marketing from verified facts and, instead of short-cut solutions, build a menu based on principles that benefit health in the long term.
But even science has its limits, so finding a balance between general recommendations and individual human needs is not at all easy.
|
|
|
|
Practical tip:
How do you know that a recommendation has solid foundations?
In the flood of nutritional advice, it's easy to succumb to the impression that every new trend is the right solution. But before you start changing your diet, try asking yourself a few simple questions:
- What is the recommendation based on?
If the argument is based on a single small study on a few dozen people, you need to be smarter. Really reliable recommendations are based on larger and long-term research, or from meta-analyses that summarize several studies together. The broader and better the evidence base, the stronger the conclusions.
- Who brings the information?
There is a difference between the recommendation of a professional company, the result of the work of a research team and the claim of an influencer promoting his own diet or dietary supplement. Therefore, always pay attention to whether the information is backed by serious institutions and experts, or whether it is more of a commercial message.
- Are the results repeating?
Science is about repeatability. If multiple independent studies confirm the same conclusion, it increases the likelihood that it is a real effect and not a coincidence. On the contrary, if the information cannot be repeatedly verified, it is good to be careful.
Thanks to these questions, you can easily distinguish a fashionable promise from a truly verified recommendation and avoid unnecessary experiments that might not benefit your health.

Nutrition in Q&A:

In ours Advisory, which is part of the courses, we often encounter questions that reflect the most common myths and contradictions in nutrition.
Question:
I often read that a gluten-free diet is healthier. Does this really apply to people without celiac disease?
Response:
Unless you have celiac disease, a wheat allergy, or a proven gluten intolerance, scientific evidence does not show that eliminating gluten has health benefits. On the contrary, their unreasonable restriction can prepare the menu with valuable nutrients. Whole grain cereals containing gluten are a source of fiber, group B vitamins, magnesium and other elements.
The feeling of "improvement" after eliminating gluten for some people is often not directly related to gluten, but rather to the fact that industrially processed foods disappear from the diet, the basis of which are processed gluten grains, which tend to be a rich source of sugars, fats, salt and additives. Therefore, if you do not have a health indication to exclude gluten, it is more appropriate to focus on the quality of cereals and prefer whole grain variants to industrial products.

I studied pharmacy at Charles University and Masaryk University, where I became interested in nutrition and nutritional counseling during my studies. I further deepened my knowledge by completing the "Nutrition and Supplementation Consultant" course. The course significantly expanded my knowledge about the functioning of the human body with an emphasis on disease prevention and especially on the issue of obesity, which I consider to be one of the most urgent challenges of today. The structure of the course, the combination of theoretical knowledge with practical examples and the professional approach of the lecturer significantly contributed to the expansion of my qualifications. I rate the course very positively. It is elaborated in detail and I apply the acquired knowledge directly in practice, which allows me to provide qualified advice and effectively help clients achieve a healthier lifestyle.
