Sucralose

Sucralose is an artificial sweetener that is 600 times sweeter than sugar. It is a low-calorie alternative to sugar, often used in the food industry, particularly in low-calorie and "diet" products. Sucralose is stable at high temperatures, which means it can be used in cooking and baking.

From a health and nutrition perspective, sucralose is generally considered safe for consumption. Some studies suggest that it may have a negative impact on gut microbiota, but most research indicates that sucralose has no serious side effects. It is important to note that while sucralose can help reduce calorie intake, it should not replace a healthy, balanced diet.

Hello,
I would like to ask about the study from May of this year on sucralose-6-acetate and its impact on health. Do you think it is relevant? Many people (experts) are questioning it; on the contrary, it makes sense to me.
Thank you.

This study found that sucralose-6-acetate, which is formed by the breakdown of sucralose (E955), is genotoxic (i.e., it breaks down DNA in cells). This is, of course, a rather significant finding, but the problem with the relevance of the study results is that the research was conducted in vitro, meaning in a test tube. Since this environment does not reflect the actual conditions of a living organism, the results of such studies are always questioned; in the scientific field, it cannot be otherwise. The standard procedure in such situations is the necessity to move this research to an in vivo platform, meaning into a living organism, ideally into a human. Only then can the results be interpreted as "true," i.e., reflecting reality.

A plethora of similar studies is associated with alternative sweeteners and a range of other additives commonly used in the food industry. Even though scientific research is ongoing, the average consumer should be cautious with these substances - we never know what effects they might have on our health within the scope of long-term consumption.

Lecturer and author of the educational system

Mgr. Martin Jelínek has been systematically involved in nutrition education since 1999. He is the founder of ATAC, the educational company behind NutriCourses, and the author of an educational system focused on nutrition, healthy lifestyle, and the practical application of nutrition knowledge.

He graduated from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in Brno. Throughout his professional career, he has combined nutrition, education, and the practical application of acquired knowledge. His educational system also includes the ZOF (Zone of Optimal Functioning) learning application, where students turn theory into practical work with meal plans.

In 2007, he launched the first intake of a six-month course focused on the education of nutrition advisors. Over time, this course became the foundation for the further development of the educational system and a range of specialised courses.
