Homeopathics

Homeopathy is a treatment method that was established in the late 18th century by German physician Samuel Hahnemann. Hahnemann developed this method based on the principle "similia similibus curentur," which means "like cures like." This principle involves the idea that a substance that can cause certain symptoms in a healthy person can treat those same symptoms in a sick person. Homeopathy thus aims to stimulate the body to heal itself using small doses of natural substances, which in larger doses would cause similar symptoms.

Homeopathic remedies are often used as a complement to conventional treatment or as an alternative to classical medicine. However, their effects are the subject of much scientific debate. Some studies suggest that homeopathy may be effective in certain cases, while other studies have demonstrated no greater effect than a placebo. Modern science often criticizes homeopathy for its lack of evidence of efficacy and for having principles that contradict some fundamental principles of biology and chemistry. Nevertheless, homeopathy remains popular and is widely used globally. Although homeopathy may be beneficial for some individuals, it should not replace conventional treatment.

Hello,
I wanted to ask whether homeopathic remedies can be classified as dietary supplements. Or are they rather considered as medicines even though doctors may not like to hear that. Furthermore, there is much discussion nowadays about the negative impact of dietary supplements on the human body. How can one tell which supplement is truly effective?
Thank you

Homeopathy is essentially a well-defined class. From the perspective of its effects, it can be perceived as a medicine, but legislation does not treat it as such. Each country in the world views it differently; unfortunately, in the Czech Republic, it stands somewhat "on the sidelines." Everything is a matter of approach and perspective, as it depends on whether we approach its effects from a position of faith or, conversely, knowledge (orthodox science views it dismissively and is convinced that it is merely a placebo effect).

You will only recognize an effective supplement by trying it out. Serious manufacturers strive to present as much information as possible to convince the customer that their product is truly worthwhile. In practice, it makes sense to focus on these claims because they are often truthful. Moreover, it is often the only way to obtain information about the quality of the materials from which they are made. However, in terms of effects (specific influence on metabolism), they will never replace personal experience.

Mgr. Martin Jelínek has been systematically involved in nutrition education since 1999. He is the founder of ATAC, the educational company behind NutriCourses, and the author of an educational system focused on nutrition, healthy lifestyle, and the practical application of nutrition knowledge.

He graduated from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in Brno. Throughout his professional career, he has combined nutrition, education, and the practical application of acquired knowledge. His educational system also includes the ZOF (Zone of Optimal Functioning) learning application, where students turn theory into practical work with meal plans.

In 2007, he launched the first intake of a six-month course focused on the education of nutrition advisors. Over time, this course became the foundation for the further development of the educational system and a range of specialised courses.
