Advisory

Hello,

You mention that it is advisable to limit animal proteins and replace them with plant-based ones in the case of multiple sclerosis, so is a vegan diet more suitable for MS? There are numerous diets focused on autoimmunity and specifically MS, various autoimmune protocols, Swank diets, the Mediterranean diet, and others, all contradicting each other. A person with MS can really get lost in it, even as a nutrition advisor. Could you please guide me on what foods are more suitable to eat and which ones are not? I've heard from several sources that SOY is not suitable and lectins in general are best avoided. If it's advisable to limit animal proteins, then there's basically only prana left :-D

Thank you.

It is not proven that a vegan diet is more advantageous for the condition of multiple sclerosis. Primarily, the focus is on the benefits of limiting excess sources of animal proteins due to their pro-inflammatory effects. By incorporating this recommendation into a dietary plan, the proportion of plant-based protein sources is increased, along with fiber, which serves a prebiotic function, and this factor is part of the anti-inflammatory dietary approach for MS. However, it is crucial to work with appropriate foods, as not every plant is safe for the given situation (a typical example being sources of antinutritional substances). Moreover, fiber itself can act antinutritionally when in excess, so the selection of suitable foods is far from the only condition for developing an appropriate meal plan – the selected ingredients need to be combined in such a way as to fulfill the requirement of nutritional balance. Therefore, during the course, you complete tasks in the educational application, where for each task you have access to a list of suitable and unsuitable foods and nutritional limits. The task allows you to try creating a model menu containing an available range of nutritional characteristics suitable for the particular situation.
