Hello,
I would like to inquire about severe joint pain (especially in the knees) during prolonged "impact" physical activities (marathons, all-day hikes with a heavy load, etc.). Could this indicate a deficiency in some macronutrients? What would you focus on in terms of diet/supplementation?
Thank you for your response!
In these situations, it is necessary to distinguish the cause of the pain. Basically, we work with three possibilities:
1. Osteoarthritis condition.
If osteoarthritis is proven, it makes sense to focus on the quality and quantity of proteins in the diet, increasing vitamin C intake, and in terms of supportive supplementation, for example, on the combination of glucosamine and chondroitin.
2. Situation of ongoing inflammation in joint tissue.
The most significant effects are from boswellia extracts. Inflammation is often accompanied by the degeneration of joint cartilage (= osteoarthritis). In such a situation, it is desirable to combine the recommendations for the situations in points 1 and 2.
3. Overloading of ligaments and tendons.
This imbalance is primarily addressed by increased focus on stabilization exercises and appropriate forms of regeneration; nutrition does not have a direct impact here.
