Advisory

Hello,
I would like to ask what foods to recommend to an athlete - a 16-year-old boy in inline skating, on the day of a competition. The races take place throughout the day, what should he eat between individual races? The athlete also struggles with nervousness and feels like he can't get anything down.

In such situations, it is necessary to experiment a little, as it involves working not only with the athlete's ability to consume food but also with the availability of foods/recipes. An ideal approach is a thorough breakfast (= sufficiently large and energetically adequate, with enough protein and fiber), while other meals are dictated by the competition schedule, i.e., time constraints. It is always more advantageous to have a smaller number of meals per day than to try to regularly satiate the body in small but frequent amounts. However, this approach must be facilitated by breaks between competitions, which cannot be resolved here; it is necessary to work with specific data. If you opt for more frequent smaller meals, it's crucial to monitor digestibility to prevent overloading the digestive tract, which would otherwise reduce the ability to perform adequately. Bananas, bread, and smaller amounts of dairy products (e.g., yogurt) appear advantageous...
