Hello,
I would like to ask from what age it is appropriate/possible to use supplements (tribulus, BCAAs, creatine) for elite athletes. Specifically, I am thinking of representatives around the age of 15.
Thank you for your response.
When choosing supplements, always make decisions based not only on the athlete's age but also on the suitability of the product for different types of exertion. Not every preparation is suitable for all types of sports, and this applies to the trio you mentioned as well.
Even though manufacturers and sellers of sports supplemental nutrition will tend to convince you that the mentioned products are suitable for competitive athletes in their adolescent years, I would personally not recommend any of these products. I am convinced that it is too early for their use. The body is still developing at this stage of life. For its proper development and essentially the future sports career, priorities should focus on adjusting the dietary system with the addition of those nutrients which you either know the athlete necessarily needs or there is a higher probability that they are deficient. In the case of intense exertion, these are primarily vitamins and selected minerals (calcium, magnesium, zinc, selenium), whose intake is challenging to maintain at the level of an individual need for such a stressed individual through regular diet over the long term.
The next goal should be preparations that enhance the athlete's resilience, including their immune system. This involves substances that you do not supply through regular diet—working with high-quality products containing garlic, echinacea, beta-glucans, and adaptogens makes sense from readily available options.
Supplements supporting sports performance should always be considered of secondary importance only after this list.
