Hello, which cholesterol helps in the conversion of vitamin D?
Vitamin D3 is synthesized in the body from a derivative of cholesterol, 7-dehydrocholesterol, which is present in the skin of a healthy individual in sufficient quantities. Under the influence of UV radiation, this substance is converted into provitamin D3 (7-dehydrocholecalciferol), which is rapidly transformed through thermal isomerization into the actual vitamin D3, known as cholecalciferol.
