It is not necessary to soak lentils when they are hulled. By removing the outer husk layer, the fiber and antinutritional content is significantly reduced in grains (legumes, cereals, seeds), making such grains suitable for cooking without prior preparation. Hulled grains, regardless of the type of legume or its color, are preferably soaked before cooking.
