Advisory

Hello,
Is the classification of somatotypes the same for women and men? So, is the division into apple and pear types for women inaccurate?
Thank you.

When assessing body type, it is important to distinguish between different typologies, which differ significantly in their methods. The classic assessment of somatotype according to Sheldon into ectomorphs, endomorphs, and mesomorphs is based on different characteristics and is considerably more complex in terms of measurement than the simple system of dividing body shapes into pear and apple types, which tracks the distribution of fat on the body. Essentially, therefore, it is not a matter of inaccuracy, but a different perspective on the given issue.
