Hello,
I am curious whether it is appropriate to take omega-3 fatty acid supplements before each meal for diabetes (ensuring that the total daily intake meets the RDA). I have noticed in the ZOF application that these supplements significantly reduce the glycemic load of a given meal, which seems very interesting and advantageous to me from the perspective of addressing this "issue."
Thank you
The GI value of a diet is reduced by all fats, not just omega-3. Supportive supplementation of omega-3 in diabetes is desirable, so do not avoid it. In fact, studies suggest that slightly higher doses than those recommended by the generalized reference value system may be beneficial; however, always consult with your attending physician regarding treatment (medication) (the main risk is the effect of omega-3 on blood clotting, especially when combined with anticoagulants, which can be a concern for diabetics with cardiovascular problems).
