Good day, Mr. Jelínek,
Is it sensible to use melatonin when a woman is diagnosed with breast cancer? And if treatment will follow? Could melatonin somehow affect the potential treatment?
Thank you.
That's a "good" question. In general, it is presented that melatonin, like any other hormonal substance, should be handled with care. This hormone has practically no proven side effects and, in addition to its ability to harmonize sleep biorhythms (which significantly contributes to regeneration), it is presented as a powerful antioxidant. Thus, from this position, its use appears to be safe. However, since it is a hormone that intervenes in body processes, it may interact with other medications, so some caution is necessary. It is ideal to consult supplementation with a treating oncologist, where I am not sure if they will say anything specific. The specialized literature states that melatonin has oncostatic effects, which is undoubtedly great information, but there are not enough studies available for the situation you are asking about. The fact is that oncological treatment exhibits a range of side effects, including sleep disorders, and in this respect, I would see the use of melatonin as beneficial.
