FODMAP

FODMAP is an acronym for fermentable oligosaccharides, disaccharides, monosaccharides, and polyols, which are forms of carbohydrates that can be difficult to digest for some people. These carbohydrates are found in various types of fruits, vegetables, grains, dairy products, and legumes. Consumption of these by individuals suffering from certain digestive issues (most commonly irritable bowel syndrome - IBS) causes unpleasant digestive symptoms, such as bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, or constipation. People affected in this way rely on a low FODMAP diet, which aims to limit the intake of foods high in FODMAPs.

Good day, Mr. Magistr.
In the elimination phase of the FODMAP diet, the selection of foods is limited, and additionally, the affected individual may react negatively to a certain quantity. How should one proceed with this diet when the individual is intolerant to larger quantities of food, begins to reach negative values of energy intake, and loses muscle mass?
Thank you for your response.

Considering that this is therapeutic nutrition, where the main goal is the regeneration of the damaged part of the digestive tract, and simultaneously, in some situations, the individual's health condition does not allow for ensuring nutritional completeness, you must accept that you simply will not meet all the conditions in the diet.

In elimination diets, it is very common to enter an energy deficit. This situation is addressed either by trying to increase the proportion of energy substrates (carbohydrates, fats), or on the contrary, due to health complications, it is not addressed at all. If energy intake does not drop below the BMR, there is no reason to unnecessarily stress during this time-limited (testing) period - one must simply accept that a side effect of this diet will also be weight reduction.
