Bones

Bones are the fundamental building blocks of the human body, providing support and protection for soft tissues and organs. They play a key role in body movement, as they serve as points of attachment for muscles. In terms of health and nutrition, it is important to maintain strong and healthy bones so they can effectively perform their functions. Healthy bones are also crucial for the prevention of osteoporosis and other bone diseases. In addition to proper nutrition, which includes sufficient protein, calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D, regular physical activity is also important for bone health, particularly exercises focused on strengthening bones, such as walking, running, or resistance training.

Hello,
what health problem can occur when the parathyroid glands produce an excessive amount of calcium?
Thank you.

The parathyroid glands do not produce calcium, but rather parathyroid hormone, which increases the level of calcium in the blood. In such a situation, hyperparathyroidism occurs, leading to an excessive increase in blood calcium levels (hypercalcemia), while the level of phosphates decreases (known as hypophosphatemia). Hyperparathyroidism primarily affects the bones (resulting in osteodystrophy) and kidneys (causing the formation of stones).

Good day,

I have a question regarding bone mineralization. I have measured my body composition several times using Tanita or Inbody devices, and each time I was told I have low bone mineralization. Should I address this situation in any way? Should I supplement my diet with additional minerals? Thank you for your response.

Bone mineralization values measured by these types of devices are interpreted in relation to the population average. This means that they in no way reflect individual needs. If they are shown in tables to be too low and there is a need to increase them, the only way within dietary modifications is to slightly increase protein intake, as an increased intake of minerals alone will not affect this. However, the process should be accompanied by increased physical activity, which enhances proteoanabolic values and the related processes of mineral deposition in bones.

Mgr. Martin Jelinek
Lecturer and author of the educational system

Mgr. Martin Jelínek has been systematically involved in nutrition education since 1999. He is the founder of ATAC, the educational company behind NutriCourses, and the author of an educational system focused on nutrition, healthy lifestyle, and the practical application of nutrition knowledge.

He graduated from the Faculty of Science at Masaryk University in Brno. Throughout his professional career, he has combined nutrition, education, and the practical application of acquired knowledge. His educational system also includes the ZOF (Zone of Optimal Functioning) learning application, where students turn theory into practical work with meal plans.

In 2007, he launched the first intake of a six-month course focused on the education of nutrition advisors. Over time, this course became the foundation for the further development of the educational system and a range of specialised courses.
